Care Instructions and FAQs
What is used to treat the wood?
All wood is treated with mineral oil, and in limited cases, food-grade epoxy for aesthetic fillers. Reapply board butter (or food-grade mineral oil if you’re in a pinch) by hand on a monthly basis or as necessary.
Where does NK Woodwork procure wood for projects?
Great question! Previously, I’ve used wood from fallen trees at Walnut Grove Farm. Air dried and locally milled (a big thank you to Urban Milling Co of Galesburg, IL), I strive to utilize sustainable sources of lumber with services from small businesses. This season’s bounty came from King Farms in Knoxville, IL, which is a literal stone’s throw away from Walnut Grove Farm (if you have a good arm).
Is the piece dishwasher safe?
No, please hand wash with warm soapy water to prolong the life of the piece.
Does the piece function as a cutting board?
Absolutely! You might be surprised I receive this question frequently, because, naturally, people are reluctant to cut anything on such beautiful grain. With that said, board butter can be a great way to boost the longevity and aesthetic appeal of the board (or any piece for that matter).
